Project introduction
Projects help organizations collaborate effectively. To use them properly, it is essential to understand the differences between a workspace, an organization, and a project.
- A workspace is a group of related work items.
- An organization consists of a group of people.
- A project brings together people who collaborate toward a common goal.
Create a project when multiple organizations or workspaces need to collaborate. If you have only one workspace, a project is not necessary. Projects are most effective when several organizations are involved.
Example scenario
Section titled “Example scenario”A tech company has five workspaces: three for different applications developed by engineers, one for the marketing team, and one for C-level executives, including the CEO, CTO, CFO, and CMO.
Engineers are divided into organizations based on the application they work on. Some engineers work on multiple applications and belong to multiple organizations. Marketing staff and C-level executives each have their own organization.
Ideally, each organization would focus solely on its own workspace. In practice, however, responsibilities often overlap.
- Several engineers are involved in more than one application at the same time.
- Some of those engineers also help marketing with creating demonstrations for the marketing team.
- Some people in marketing also act as visual designers and are thus involved in the applications being developed.
- All C-level members want a full overview of all projects.
- Additionally, various managers must also be included.
As a result, project organization becomes significantly more complex.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Resources are linked together, the resources being either a workspace (work) or organizations (workforce), in such a way that they can access one another.
With each project update, all members of accessible organizations are added to all workspaces they can access; when an organization adds or removes a member, the project also updates the workspace members.
